Those of you who have been following my ramblings for some time now will likely have heard me make the assertion that “90% of scribes out there are doing it wrong”. While I’ve offered a spattering of tips and strategies about better ways to approach the market, I thought that perhaps a more comprehensive resource might be in order. Hence the following series: “How to Glyph”.
Series Overview
In order to truly be comprehensive, we’ve got to tackle everything, so I figured we might as well start from the very beginning.
- A brief history of glyphs/inscription.
- The fall of 4.0
- The old philosophy
- A new philosophy
- Effective price cycles
- How to deal with campers
- How to deal with the glyph barons
- Inscription and the vertical monopoly
- Recap
- …and probably a few more topics I can’t think of right now
The plan is likely going to be to write the entire series as a whole before releasing any posts, so don’t expect anything further for a bit. If you have any comments/suggestions/questions feel free to let me know.

It’s a good idea and all, and I won’t deny that I look forward to reading some of the articles, but don’t you think that ‘A brief history of glyphs/inscription</em', 'The fall of 4.0‘ and ‘The old philosophy‘ might be, y’know, a little redundant nowadays?
Because, imho, understanding why Glyphs used to be so awesome, and how people used to make money from them isn’t going to help anyone nowadays.
Well, that’s sort of the point. I’ve found that too many people are trying to apply out of date strategies to today’s market. I think you need to understand why people were doing that in the first place in order to get an understanding of why it doesn’t work, and then to effectively decide how to do things differently.
That, plus the fact that I’d like this to be “comprehensive”, which would mean making it accessible for people no matter how long they’ve been at it. As such, having some historical information would be of value for people who weren’t around back in WotLK.
Bottom line, I promise to put something out there worth reading, whether the topic titles seem exciting or not.
I am looking forward to read it, but since patch will come out tomorrow will you make the glyph guide take that in count, and happy writing Kath.
I will be looking forward to this. I’m an old glyph veteran, but I always enjoy glyph discussion in the gold blogging community.
