Fair Warning: the use of ellipsis in the title are meant to convey a sense of ironic suspense. With that, let’s get on with this.
Whatever force you may believe is directing the universe, be it 1 God, many gods, scientology, some ambiguous Supreme Being, or even nothing at all, I wholeheartedly believe that it is in possession of a sense of humour. A day after having some discussion with some of the other Consortium Wind Traders about paid Gold-Making Guides, I received the following email:
To whomever it may concern,
To make a long story short, I’m one of the most hardcore video game players to ever walk the face of the earth. I’m constantly striving to find the most efficient, quality strategies to perform in every game I play. Moreover, I’m not at all selfish=p. In fact, in order to share my strategies with the public I created an entirely free website explaining all of my strategies in extreme detail, while describing my strategies in a “for dummies” way.
My most recent, and what I think to be my most successful strategy guide is my 10k an hour gold guide for WoW. I spent months perfecting this strategy and anyone that plays WoW is capable of achieving the same results; hardcore or casual.
I’m a long time reader of your blog and I enjoy reading your interesting updates daily. =) I would love to become a part of such an informative community and I’m strongly confident that if you post my 10k an hour guide on your blog, your loyal readers will kiss your feet for allowing such a desired entity to be publicized. Also, I sincerely believe that if you were to post this update, your traffic would increase dramatically.
If that’s not a fantastic way to start your day, I don’t know what is. Here’s my reply to this industrious entrepreneur:
You know, it’s funny – I would have expected a long time reader to have taken the time to address me by name, or at least to have attempted to extract it from the email address.
I also would have expected a “long time reader” to recognize that I have never provided “daily updates” in the history of his blog. Finally, a long time reader should be at least a little familiar with my content. The link you provided suggests that your guide is located in a folder entitled “farming”, so I’m not sure I understand how this is going to benefit MY readers.
All in all, I’m having difficulty reconciling the image of readers kissing my feet because of your guide. The only thing I hate more than a salesman is a bad one. If you would like to sell your guide, that’s fine, but perhaps try not to misrepresent yourself as someone you’re not and see if works out a bit better for you.
That’s all, just thought you might get a chuckle out of it. Stede and I have started to turn a bit of a corner with our analysis project, so the Goblin Index Rating is still moving in the right direction. I’ll keep you posted.
