The original title was “Merry Christmas, Goblins”, but I changed it. That said, this is going to be a quick little post about some stuff that is about to go down.
First of all, some exciting news from Blizzard. They are working on an API for features such as the RAH, which obviously offers a great deal of hope for the future of the Goblin Index Rating. The details haven’t been worked out just yet, but the information so far is pointing towards a launch timeframe of the coming “weeks”, so stay tuned. That probably gives me just enough time to learn JSON and get a rough database thrown together – provided I can keep myself motivated.
One thing that would really help is if anyone reading this could make their way over to the forum and voice their support for the availability of “sold” data. I am planning on posting about it myself, so just simply giving some +rep to my post will likely suffice. That seems to garner more positive attention from Blizzard than a spam/petition thread anyway. The Blue poster has suggested that they aren’t looking at offering it, and I don’t know how easily it will be able to be inferred from whatever format they use for the data, but it plays a huge role in effectively calculating the formula for the Goblin Index Rating – to the point where I don’t know whether it is even worth moving forward without it. (And that isn’t even just me being dramatic this time).
In other news, I received a grand total of 0 feedback about future posts, but that is probably ok, since I am notoriously bad at taking feedback without just doing my own thing anyway. This just means I have no other choice but to do my own thing, so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go ahead with the server specific TUJ analysis. I think it will be fun (I’m twisted like that), I think it’s a bit different, and I think it has the potential to be helpful. Especially if you guys request some of your own realms. If you are waiting to see if I actually seem to know what I’m talking about, I totally understand, bear with me and I will try and “prove my worth” for you. The first one might not be my best work, but since these are uncharted waters, at least give me until about the third one before you write me off. Since my server is conveniently the very last server listed (Zuluhed-H), I’m going to start at the top and work my way down. So, I’ll start with Aegwynn-A, then move on the Aegwynn-H, then Aerie Peak-A, and so on and so forth. If you end up with specific requests along the way, let me know and I will jump around for you.
I’m not quite sure about the format yet, but I will grab the XML feeds from Zuluhed to make a nice spreadsheet over the next few days. Once I find a nice way of viewing the data, which will be easier on a server whose economy I am already familiar with, I’ll plug Aegwynn into it and go crazy. Wish me luck.

There are a couple of things I would like to see:
1) Answer the d/e jewelry question that comes up so much in the new gem price. I see all these people saying things that haven’t been true on my real for one to two months.
total for each realm compute the d/e price say
sum of .69*2 dust and .31*.67 lCE (or w/e the jasper, alicite and hessonite d/e into)
The current break even for the two gem items is 19.2 (2*9+1.2)
So is that currently profitable on 5% of the realms or 90%?
2) I am also curious as to the size of the economies of the realms. I think that is a better metric for economy size than the #ofentires that TUJ uses. Also is my million gold 1% of the AH? 0.1%? …
P.S.: US/Aerie Peak/A would be my first choice
Hi Linda,
Thanks for the feedback. I hadn’t seen any comments since the April Fool’s post and was starting to think I had upset everyone…
Let me try and address a few of your questions here. First, are you wondering how the D/E market will be affected by the uncommon vendor price change on the PTR? If you, let me first remind you that the info was datamined off the PTR and is in no way guaranteed to make it live. That said, I’m not too sure how big an impact it will ultimately have on the d/e markets. Sure, it will probably scare a few people away from the shuffle, but those that are already taking it all the way through to d/e will likely continue to do so. If a number of people stop shuffling, the price of ore will probably drop a bit, but I think the people that stay in the market will pick up the slack.
With the second part of your question – are you wondering about how to calculate your profit margins from the shuffle, or are you wondering whether it is profitable on other servers? If you are wondering about calculations, I would recommend you check out This Consortium Spreadsheet. If you are more concerned with the number of realms on which this is currently profitable, I would suggest that it is likely the majority of them. The option of vendoring cut gems for 9g is currently protecting the value of the ore, but the d/e end is actually protected through the lack of a vendor price. Enchanting mats are a safe bet, they now cost next to nothing to deposit (they used to actually be nothing, now it’s a few copper). If the enchanting mats aren’t holding their value on your server, this is definitely a market I would either try and reset or throw your mats in the bank and wait for the right time to sell. Since d/e mats come from so many different places, it naturally fluctuates more than other markets.
Regarding the “size” of the different servers’ economies – I could probably estimate the approximate value of all of the “buyouts” on every server, but I don’t know how useful it would be. For example, someone could potentially list a bunch of stuff at unreasonable prices, causing the data to be unnecessarily skewed. On the other hand, I don’t imagine anyone would be trying to manipulate the data on such a large scale, since it wouldn’t really serve any purpose that I can see… Anyway, the TUJ XML shows me market value, market average, and current quantity, so I guess I could multiply either the MV or the average by the quantity available to get a rough estimate. What would you want to see?
Finally, out of curiosity – what is your interest in Aerie Peak – A? I’m asking because that was the server I started playing WoW on, before making my home on Zuluhed – H. It would actually be quite interesting for me to do some analysis on my old stompin’ grounds, is that your server?
I know that was a long comment, but it just made more sense that creating a new post. Did I misunderstand some of your questions, or was that helpful?
