I bet I know what you’re thinking: “oh great, yet another World of Warcraft gold making blog”, right? Well, before you write this off, allow me to explain why I believe this will not be yet “another” wow gold blog, but instead, a unique exploration into previously uncharted waters.
Let’s start by examining the gold-making landscape as a whole. Learning how to make gold in WoW has really increased in popularity, and sites like Just My Two Copper, Warcraft Econ, WoW Insider and the Consortium have really helped to boost and grow the community. As a result, a number of community members have undertaken blogging ventures of their own, which has led to a significant rise in the amount of information available on the subject of making gold. I think it’s great and I have come across a lot of useful stuff from some great people, but my aim is to ensure that the content offered here is unique and continues to add value to an established community, without feeling like I’m just saying the same thing as everyone else.
The one thing I believe is missing from current discussion a centralized approach or system that brings all of the ideas and strategies out there together and unites them in the name of cold, hard, profit! What I have been conceptualizing over the past while is something I am calling the Goblin Index Rating, and it is ultimately, a way of answering the age-old question “what is the best way to make gold in WoW?” Seems ambitious, right?
The Goblin Index Rating is a method which compares all of the key aspects of making gold in order to determine which would be most effective in any given situation. That’s right, ANY given situation. It doesn’t matter how big or small your server is, what the horde-alliance ratio is. It doesn’t matter which professions you use, or what level your character is, or how much gold you are starting out with. The Goblin Index Rating is a tool that can ensure you are as successful as possible no matter what your circumstances are.
The other great thing about the Goblin Index Rating is that anyone can use it. Novice gold-makers can use it to determine how to start making gold, and seasoned pros can use it to optimize their empires. One of the biggest pitfalls I’ve run into time and time again, is not being prepared before taking on a new gold-making endeavor. The Goblin Index Rating forces you to examine all of the important factors and potential obstacles up front, before you spend your precious time and gold only to find out you should have been doing something else all along.
In the next post or so, I will go into more detail about how the Goblin Index Rating works, and how you can utilize it to make piles upon piles of gold (by the way, please let me know what you think of the name – Goblin Index Rating. I think it has a certain appeal, but fear it might be a bit cheesy…). In the meantime, feel free to check out the other pages on the site and let me know what you think. It’s a work in progress, and I am completely open to any suggestions you guys might have. Check out the Upcoming Features page to get a better idea about some of the things I have in mind, but the next little bit will likely revolve around me fleshing out the G.I.R for you guys and trying to gain a bit more of an audience. As far as posting frequency goes, I think that daily is a bit ambitious for me right now, but I would like to try and get out more than 1 post a week, so hang in there while we get into a nice rhythm.

Good luck on your voyage! Nice clean design. I really need to update mine but first I want a personal server to run it on so I can code my own stuff.
What a fantastic idea! I can’t wait to see what you come up with but it sounds like a big undertaking! I think you’re right not to try for daily posts – something like this will take more than just a quick daily post to explain & if you try for the daily, you may find it taking over your life. I wish you well & look forward to your next posts.
I appreciate the feedback. I’ve been working on some graphics for the index rating, but I hope to have a more thorough post after the weekend.
I don’t see it as being that big of an undertaking. It’s really just taking a lot of what is already out there and bringing it together to make it more accessible and effective.
Am I creating enough suspense yet…?
Welcome to the gold (media) game, looking forward to what you have to say. The GIR seems a little ambitious, but I’ll hold out to see what you do with it.
